On my last day in the neighborhood, I had to come in for my last espresso. Located next to the all encompassing hardware store, Gretchen's has been a neighborhood gem. Folks of all ages hang out and interact, especially if the weather is nice.
Nice coffee using Caffé Vita beans. Always consistent. And a nice selection of sweet and savory pastries. I've only visited during the morning hours, but I think they also have lunch menus. Great friendly staff as well. -

This is a nice little cafe. Friendly staff and they make a great latte. Always nice to support local shops!

Please do yourself the favor of visiting Gretchen's. Their coffee is honestly superior to many in the entire area. Specifically their iced coffee. I love it here and the prices are very fair. Very quaint atmosphere. Check it out. You won't regret it.

Wow. Not sure what to say about then barista that, well it wouldn't be 'welcomed' us because it certainly was a pleasant hello. Looked at us in the strangest/weirdest manner when we entered. We were coming in for a cup of tea and a pastry. Thought the place looked like a cute little hole in the wall and that it would be nice to go to somewhere local over, you know a Starbucks. Anyways we sort of stumbled through the hello. I asked a out the Chinese Breakfast tea if it was a black tea and she said yes. I asked her if she would mind if I smelled it (loose leaf) and she replied with a sneer (yes it was a sneer) "seriously ?" Ah, yes 'seriously'. Wow, wow, wow. I asked politely/nicely. Anyways we turned around and left. Won't ever go back. What an absolutely unpleasant place.

Hard to believe that there is a little place in Seattle where you can get a grilled Ham and cheese, chips and a Coke for $7. Quaint and cozy, only four tables, three stools at the counter and two lounge chairs.
